Dinah’s Weekend Coffee Chat 6/18/21

Hello my friend….

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten together for coffee. How are you? I hope life is treating you well!

Grab a cup of something you love and let’s chat…

If we were having coffee… I would of course, tell you that I’m thrilled to see you. It’s good to connect with friends!

For those of you who have followed my blog for a bit, I would tell you that I have finally been able to move my brother into a quality healthcare facility. He is finally receiving good, consistent care. This has taken a huge weight off my shoulders. While I’m immensely grateful, I do have to state that our healthcare system and long-term healthcare system are in trouble. It shouldn’t take this much work to find a facility that gives good care! We, as a nation, should be able to do much better than this. And since all of us are impacted either personally or through family members… I would encourage everyone to take this seriously.

If we were having coffee….I’d share with you that I recently decided/remembered that I started this blog as a way to write authentically about real things. I had veered off for a bit into the PollyAnna/cheerleader realm. And it was NOT a good fit. You can see that post here. So I’ve regained my perspective and am now intending to embrace and discuss whatever pops up….in other words….real life.

If we were having coffee… I would tell you that I’m feeling what my friend Arionnah would have called… Divine Discontent! That’s usually a good thing. It means that something is on the horizon. I’m not sure what that is… perhaps a writing class or a painting class… Something to expand the way that I operate in the world. I don’t know what it is yet but I am actively watching for it! It’s sort of like that feeling when you’re definitely hungry but you can’t figure out what you want to eat, what you’re hungry for! It feels like that… All the time lately… I even wrote about it here

It’s summer in the Midwest which means it’s a beautiful time of year! We’re in the middle of a significant drought (7 inches behind in precipitation) which causes concern for crops and animals. But it’s still beautiful. And I appreciate every gentle day!

And you, my friend… How are you? Have you been taking good care of yourself? Are you doing anything to expand your horizons? Feel free to share in the comments below.

And, until we meet again for coffee… Know that I’m glad you’re here!💜

The weekend coffee share is hosted by Natalie the Explorer

Dinah I am so glad you have come back to share. I enjoyed reading your update. Blogging for me has been a way to share my life, health, stories and more. It is a realistic representation (in my opinion) because I cannot lie to save myself! I try to manage anything negative with how I dealth with it and changed as a result.

Healthcare everywhere in the world is floundering at many levels. I am glad that you have settled your loved one. Here in Australia we are not having a consistent approach to Covid 19 management nor to the vaccination program because…we are federally governed for some things…and state for others. A classic case of ‘buck passing’….and on that note,

I do understand drought and water shortages. Living in country NSW for some of our teaching lives we relied on tank and bore water. I hope things shift for you soon.

  2. Hello Dinah, welcome back! I’m sorry to hear about the healthcare system in your area, but agree with what Denyse said… healthcare is in so much trouble in so many places. I left my nursing job because it felt like working on a sinking ship and it made me sick from stress.

But it’s good to hear you’ve found a good facility for your brother.
Blogging about real life is good and such posts are always interesting to read. I’ve been veering all over the place with my own blog during the spring but as usual I’ve come back to write about life as well.

    1. Thanks for visiting! I’m glad you chose to take care of yourself rather than trying to save a sinking ship! Our healthcare system needs be less about money and profits and more about true care. I’m just not sure how we get there.
Thanks too for your blogging thoughts! Real life is so much easier & enjoyable to write about!
I hope to stop by your blog soon💜

    Hi Dinah,
Such a beautiful picture – you have an artist’s eye!
I am doing well since my hip surgery, and am amazed how much my attitude has become more positive now that I’m not in pain. My heart goes out to you and others who deal with pain daily.
    Friends always,
    Bev

  4. Hi Dinah, I too welcome you back and regret you were most likely tied up with dealing with securing good care for your brother. Not pleasant, but it does give me an open door to agree with your writing about reality drive.
I will take that any day over posts that never get to real life. I like the great photos and lives that other must live, but sometimes it just feels like we’re only hearing about the good things happening and I know that can’t always be true.
Friends should be able to take on the challenges along with the celebrations.

=so good to have you back!

    1. Hey Gary!
So nice to see you! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I feel like I’m still trying to find my blogging stride. My blog is about 9 months old now. I’m learning what works and what doesn’t. Trying to always be positive rather than real was NOT a good fit. Lesson learned!
I hope you’re well. I’ll be stopping by soon.
Wishing you a wonderful week 🌺

Your photography is certainly a beautiful medium of expression.
You are so right about the healthcare and long term care systems of this country. I have been in healthcare for 37 years and have seen the deterioration of something that we ALL are going to need at some point …. you’d think we could and would preserve what we will be needing the most at our weakest and most vulnerable time. Always try and have an advocate. You must have been a great one for your brother. You succeeded!

    1. Thank you! Advocacy is part of my wiring. I was a rehab counselor for over 20 years. And I don’t tolerate abuse or neglect in any form. I agree with you….You’d think EVERYONE would want to create a healthy and trustworthy system! Instead it’s becoming a crappy environment that can’t keep quality people….Humans make no sense….At least modern/western humans seem short sighted and idiotic to me anyway.
I hope you have a great week 💜
