A Big Life

When I was young… I was sure that I was going to lead a big life and change the world. I was sure that I was here to do something big, something important.

I kept waiting for my mission to show itself.

Until it did, I just focused on living… But my life seemed relatively small.
I finished college.
I got married.
I got a job… sure that it would be temporary

I loved my husband, my family, and my friends.

In my job, I helped people with disabilities become employed. It was good work. It was worthwhile work. And yet I craved more… Bigger, better, flashier.

And I waited and waited and waited for that mission… That bigger life…

That temporary job lasted 20 years. I never kept count, but I’m sure there were hundreds of people that found jobs in those 20 years.

My family continued to expand and contract as some members passed, and some members were born.

My husband and I have known health as well as illness…

And that grand mission never materialized…

Unless it did… And maybe this was it?

I’m glad you’re here💜

  1. Loved this. Makes me think of how your life is like an Elephant: bringing passage and peace to others by stamping out obstacles. Thank you 🙏🏼 for what you do! This reflection was lovely to read, and I’m delighted I got the chance to. I think your contributions are big.

  2. This is a topic that I have been having trouble accepting or understanding personally these recent years. I am not sure if I still have a mission, if there was one in the first place, or if I should just stop trying to do what I perceived to be my mission.
