“We have a tendency to think in terms of doing and not in terms of being. We think that when we are not doing anything, we are wasting our time. But that is not true. Our time is first of all for us to be. To be what? To be alive, to be peaceful, to be joyful, to be loving. And that is what the world needs most.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
In our chaotic world of DOING, have you taken time to BE? Would you consider trying it?
Would you take some time to be kind, first and foremost, to yourself? Can you put away all the shoulds and should haves and just love yourself for who you are?
Instead of accomplishing, could you sit quietly and simply breathe in the sunset? Let the light fill your being so that you know to your core that you’re lacking nothing.
Our broken and battered world needs your beingness, your lovingness, your gentleness. But only your leftovers…Because the Universe wants all of that for you first.
So let yourself absorb it all without worrying about taking too much. Let yourself be. Let yourself absorb love and joy and peace. And when you’ve spent time just ingesting it all…when you feel full, at least for now, then share your love with the world.
But seriously, YOU first!

I am bad at this. So very bad at this. I am one of the people who scurries from Doing to Doing.

It’s definitely a learned behavior. But, once you try it, you’ll like it, I think 🤔

I’m very conscious of trying to be….trying to reach a level of contentment. There is just so much to do in the world, to soak up so it becomes hard. I try getting into the Scottish mountains to just be, to breathe it in. At lunchtime when I go out for a walk I do try also to enjoy the colours….but there is definitely an art to just being at one with oneself. Nice to be reminded, thank you

Thank you for sharing this. Yes, being is something I have to remind myself of. And I always feel better when I move into that mindset.

This is an important reminder for me, always. I have had weeklong “being” retreats in meditation, but it’s been awhile. I try to make time every day. “Being” takes on many forms for me now.
