Time to Heal…Day 8/30

“This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.

I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and though it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledge—even wisdom. Like art.”   – Toni Morrison

It’s November and things are changing in so many ways. The weather is changing rapidly. We’ve been lucky this year. Fall has been gorgeous in my little corner of the world. But winter is coming…And no matter how hard I try, I’m just never thrilled or ready for winter.

And the general political climate is changing worldwide…so much pain in so many places.

It makes for uneasiness and angst which is tough to live with. We’re all on edge to some degree, I think.

So what do we do? We start by feeling what we feel and allowing others to do the same. And then t’s time for “radical self care” as they say. We all need to be mindful of cultivating joy as much and as often as possible.

And, along with radical self-care, I have been thinking a lot about radical love. How can we love more deeply, more widely, more openly and certainly more consistently?

I know that many people feel that love is a word that should only be used cautiously because it is sacred and they believe that it shouldn’t be said carelessly.

But I have a different opinion of love… And it’s ever evolving. More and more, I’m thinking that it is because love is so sacred that we SHOULD be giving it away and sharing it with everyone we meet with wild abandon! Love is meant to be given away!

Obviously I’m not talking about romantic love. That’s something everyone has to figure out individually. I’m talking about platonic love, friendship love, human kindness love that WE ALL NEED EVERY DAY!!!

So, I’m going to be thinking about this during the weekend and trying to spread a bit more love than usual. It could be a fun experiment. I’d love it if you’d join me. How could YOU spread more love this week?

I’m glad you’re here💜

  1. I like the idea of spreading a lot more love than usual. Glad autumn was beautiful in your corner of the world this year. It was beautiful here, and still is! Wishing you all the very best 🙂 Happy writing, my friend.

  2. Thank you for these words, Dinah.

I love the Toni Morrison quote so I’m saving that for later.

These words from Nikita Gill are sustaining when the world feels so full of the opposite of love and I choose to notice those who are putting their beautiful creations into the world: ‘Everything is on fire, but everyone I love is doing beautiful things/ and trying to make life worth living / and I know I don’t have to believe in everything, / but I believe in that.’

I also love these words from Alistair Bane that speak to the love you describe putting into the world: ‘I believe that even a small act of love can ripple out across this world and touch someone. And maybe, it can even ripple from this world to the next and back again.’ From this story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-ipsn-RQWk
