Swings and shifts happen…whether I’m aware of it or not. I should be aware because I’m riding the movement and holding on for dear life! I forget that the changing wind transports me from one extreme to the other and then back again…
How can I be on such a wild ride and not be aware of it?
The TikTok of the swing takes me first to the extreme of feeling isolated and alone in the experience of the day… Why is this happening? And how can anyone possibly relate?
And then it swings again, and I feel supported and part of the whole of existence…
The shift into connection and feeling of community often comes from hearing an ancient folk song or a beautiful poem…Art has a way of reminding us that there is nothing new under the sun… That we are more alike than we are different and that we’re all just doing our best.
The shifting of the pendulum isn’t like the steadiness of a metronome or a base beat… It’s more like a windsock whose movement is entirely dependent on the direction of the latest storm or hopefully gentle breeze…
I hope someday to be able to hold onto the knowing that even in the wild winds of change, there is music and poetry and gentleness that exist solely because everyone experiences the valleys in different ways and then has the graciousness to share it with those of us still walking through it…
I’m glad you’re here 💜

this was so beautiful and such an inspiring thing to read upon waking up. My favourite line was: I hope someday to be able to hold onto the knowing that even in the wild winds of change, there is music and poetry and gentleness that exist solely because everyone experiences the valleys in different ways and then has the graciousness to share it with those of us still walking through it…
Such powerful writing. Thank you for sharing this with us and an honour to be writing with you this month ❤️

This is really lovely, Dinah. I think there will always be a collection of people sharing beauty of thought as art for others to enjoy. Even in the depths of sadness can beautiful art be made, life is full of crests and troughs and we’re just sailing this ocean together aren’t we.
