Fall Pause—-Day 3/30

Time seems to be moving so quickly now. Just a few weeks ago it still felt like summer. Recently though, I started to notice all the subtle changes. The light was changing. I tried to ignore it but that really didn’t work. The sunlight hit the windows differently. The yard seemed to glow golden, a much softer version of the intense summer sun. The house seemed darker. I can’t help but lament the passing of summer.

Now the wind blows more wildly and the leaves scatter. I try to breathe in the vibrant Fall colors before they disappear in the next driving rain storm.

Many trees are already bare, like skeletons against the blue sky.

All the gentleness of summer is quickly being replaced with weather that can feel quite punishing.

How could we have reached the beginning of winter so quickly? How did we get here?

I’ve successfully survived whatever our Midwest winter has dished out each year. But memory is short. And every Fall I pause and wonder about my ability to do it again.

I’m glad you’re here 💜
