Dysfunctional Family Bingo Revisited…Day 20/30

I wanted to get this into your hands early so that you have time to plan to use it this gathering season…

The holidays are upon us. Whether you love them or whether you hate them… They come with their own special brand of stress. So this post is designed to help you have some fun with that stress… the kind that only time with family can create…

Author and life coach, Martha Beck created this game called… Dysfunctional Family Bingo. It’s brilliant. Here’s what you do.…..

You need to enlist at least one friend, but you can play with as many friends as you want. Let’s say it’s you and two of your friends. You each fill out the form that predicts the obnoxious behavior that you are each anticipating when you go to your own family gatherings. So you will all have different things on your sheet.

You might be waiting for your mother to comment on your haircut. While your friend might be waiting for her mother to comment on her weight. And the third person in your group might not have anything related to her mother. Perhaps she is waiting for her nasty sister-in-law to make a snide comment about her romantic life… Whatever. You each fill the form out listing the obnoxious behaviors that usually ensue during typical holiday gatherings.

Then, as you complete your scorecard, you can be texting each other with updates.

All this is done… Not to cause trouble… But to bring some fun into the dysfunction that we all deal with at the holidays.

I so wish that I would have had this when I was attending family gatherings. It would have made them so much more fun! I hope this adds to your fun too.

Thank you Martha Beck!

I’m glad you’re here💜

    1. Yes…I know there are happy families out there. But those people could do this with all the good things they’re looking forward to….like Grandma’s pumpkin cookies and Grandpa’s card tricks….etc.

  2. This made me laugh so much! Thanks for sharing!

I did something similar when I worked at an after school program. My supervisor didn’t like me, so I only showed it to a trusted co-worker who laughed.

    1. I’m so glad you saw the humor in it! I remember laughing out loud when I first discovered it on Martha’s Facebook page I think. By then my family was no longer getting together for the holidays. I really wish that I had had it when we were! it would have made it so much more fun!

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead. Thanks so much for stopping by💜

      1. Right after reading this, I searched for my after school program bingo card, but it wasn’t there. I’m sure I deleted it, because I didn’t want any reminders of that experience.

It was funny, too. It focused on kids. One I remember was “Found a used band-aid in my pocket,” inspired by one of my co-workers who discovered such a thing at the end of the day. Each column and row had at least one thing each employee could mark.
